In the English city of Sheffield, textiles will be joining the list of materials to be recycled as mandated by the city.
The town’s Recycling Coordinator celebrates the illegalization of putting textiles in the trash and shares other successes of the town’s recycling initiatives. Sheffield has implemented several locations called “Transfer Stations” that facilitate a host of these initiatives and allow members of the community to easily participate in the process of lowering the amount of waste that hits the landfills.
Textiles, mattresses, food waste, shredded paper, mercury-based products, and some electronics are some examples of waste the town is diverting from trash compactors.
